A major character in the Slayers anime. The daughter of Philionel El De Saillune, prince of the city Saillune, she is in the direct line to the throne (though, in her early teens, she is years away from leadership of the city.) An accomplished shrine maiden, she is skilled at all three types of magic, though relatively less in black magic than white and shamanist. Her strong belief in justice borders on pathological and gets her into trouble a lot, not to mention her tendency towards hero-worship. Very close friends (not quite something more) with Zelgadis Greywords, a chimera companion.

Taking the prototype Mobile Suit Gundam, he fought off the Zeon and became the Gundam's pilot on the Earth Federation Starship White Base. Over time his ability to make friends grew as well as his ability as a pilot, which grew almost abnormaly until he was confirmed as being a 'Newtype', the next stage of human evolution. During the Zeon War he made a lifelong nemesis of Char Aznable (Zeon's ace pilot). After the war was finished, he was placed in house arrest by the Federation who feared his abilities as a Newtype. During the Gryps War (Zeta Gundam) he sat out the conflict until his friends from White Base convinced him to fight the good fight. And so a 23 Year old Amuro joined the Anti-Earth-Union-Group and was forced to become the ally of the man he hated- Char Aznable. When the Gryps War ended, nothing is known of Amuro until the Second Neo-Zeon War (Amuro is 29 at that time) when he was Londo Bell's (a Peace keeping organisation sponsored by the Earth Federation) Ace Pilot. It was here when he had his final battle with Char Aznable and the two of them are presumed dead (Mobile Suit Gundam-Char's Counterattack).

Anamorphic Widescreen Technical Term
1. In film production, anamorphic widescreen is a production method that uses the full height and width of a 35mm frame by compressing a widescreen image horizontally with a special lens. When projected, another lens decompresses the same image for a normal appearance. Since anamorphic widescreen uses the full film frame, it provides higher resolution than other widescreen methods that crop the image. However, it also introduces picture distortions that cause some cinematographers to shy away from using this production method.
2. Anamorphic widescreen DVD's are those whose image has been pressed onto the disc with greater vertical resolution for viewing on 16:9 aspect ratio widescreen TV sets. When viewed on a standard 43 TV sets, the DVD player must compensate for the anamorphic image or it will appear stretched vertically. Anamorphic DVD's provide higher resolution for widescreen TV sets, although they can exhibit down conversion artifacts on standard 4:3 sets.

The are impervious to normal weapons, thanks to their AT fields, and can only be effectively combatted by the giant biomechanical weapons known as Evangelions.

Anger crosses Technical Term
A common convention to represent a bulging vein on the forehead, usually used when a character is extremely angry or annoyed. Over time, this has become increasingly stylized, and now often appears as the broken outline of a cross, with the angles all ninety degrees. Occasionally, a character can develop more than one of these, if the artist is trying to make the character seem absolutely incensed. Much more infrequent is the appearance of an anger cross in a word balloon or presented not actually on the character's face - these are used so often, however, that it is generally understood to mean the same thing.

Seemingly without a will of her own, Himemiya pledges her full loyalty to whoever currently possesses her as the dueling campion. When an uncomprehending Utena duels Saionji over Himemiya's honor and wins, the two become "engaged", although all Utena wants is friendship - something Himemiya does not know the meaning of. It soon becomes apparent that the entire Student Counil is out to possess Himemiya, although she offers no reason why, explaining simply, "I am the Rose Bride." Aspect Ratio Technical Term
Simply the ratio of width to height in a film or video image. Early films were shown at an aspect ratio of 1.37:1, meaning the films were 1.37 times wider than they were high. Standard NTSC television took its inspiration from these early films and has an aspect ratio of 1.33:1 (or "4:3", as the ratio is sometimes expressed) . Modern films generally have much wider aspect ratios, ranging from 1.66:1 to 2.5:1 (with 1.85:1 "Academy ratio" and 2.35:1 "Panavision" being the standards) , and again the next generation of broadcast television (HDTV) will be taking its cue from film, with an aspect ratio of 1.77:1 (or 16:9) . When modern widescreen films are shown on standard 4:3 TV sets, they are generally either cropped on the sides ("pan and scan") or shown "letterboxed", where the entire widescreen image is visible but the top and bottom of the TV screen are blank.

assembly Technical Term
One of the first stages of the post-production process, an assembly is traditionally the first edit of any film or television episode. An assembly is an extremely loose edit designed to show uncut scenes in the order in wich they will appear; it is not broken into individual shots and therefore cannot always show true continuity. The assembly stage is often skipped in modern animation, especially now that computer-assisted non-linear editing has become common. Often there is no clear distinction between an assembly and a rough cut to begin with, as editing is usually a continuous process.

Avid Technical Term
Generally used as shorthand for Avid Media Composer or Avid Film Composer, Avid Technology is actually the name of the major manufacturer of high-end, non-linear digital editing systems. Avid systems consist of both custom hardware and software designed for digitizing large amounts of film or video footage and editing them in a non-linear fashion on computer. The majority of all filmed media is now edited on Avid systems due to its advantages in time savings and versatility. Editing digitized images is also much more forgiving than editing physical film, since mistakes can be easily erased. Still, some traditionalists prefer the feel of editing on physical film, and given the high cost of Avid systems it is unlikely that physical, linear editing systems such as the Steenbeck will disappear completely in the near future.
